It’s cold outside, the sky burns bright blue that almost hurts to look at as the poignant pines prickle my senses and soul…it’s a mountain morning in the Smokies of North Carolina. The view, over the undulating land, looks as if oceans waves have been frozen in time and covered in velvet. The stationary energy of these hills speaks to me, touches me, and reminds me just how big our world is and how small compared to the universe is we live and how significant or insignificant I can be.
This I love.
Standing on the windswept, blustery sands, overlooking the never-ending movement of water, wind, sea, and soul fills my heart with wonder. These majestic waters were given rules to live by and day in, day out, she continues her caress of love as wave after wave roll onto the beaches of the outer banks.
This I love
The never-ending, straight line of highway that stretches through the Mojave desert reflects the bright beaming sun off the land that for centuries-long old, has glittered with the details of every sand crystal reflecting the story of this land and the beaming light from above that matches the stars in the night sky.
This I love
The sky is grey with the silent sentinels of heavy snow fill clouds as the wide-open space of Montana spreads out a view of snow, sprinkled like powdered sugar in and over every crevasse of the land that is caressed by this silent blanket. The insulation and heavy sky allow every heartbeat to be heard as I drink in the break between cloud and land.
This I love.
The orange globe warms my legs and face as I listen to the pacific rolling and crashing onshore under the cliff-lined edge of Dana’s Point. Hundreds flock to listen and watch the final moment before the curtains fall on another pacific day. The globe of light and heat sinks into the waters appearing to beckons a night’s sleep.
This I love
With its pines, nearly 8 feet in diameter, the silent, swaying sentinels of Lake Tahoe rise above the bolder strewn water-filled crater by hundreds of feet. It’s huge…everything is huge as it stands out in width, depth, and is filled with waters reflecting the bouncing sunlight off its crystal twinkling waves. The blue of the sky, the blue of the waters split by ragged peak mountains seems unearthly.
This I love.
The quiet, supportive look and connection between me and my wife. The mysterious, joyous bond that seems to have started before we began and will continue through Him long after these wild windy days are put to rest.
This I love.
When rules, laws, ‘shoulds and coulds’, rejections, judgments, comparisons, competition, and teachings that lead us to be lawyers instead of lovers fail to light our soul’s fire and seat the God of all in our hearts, that the grace, mercy and eternal never-ending reach of God our Father continue to touch us…
“Neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 8:39
This I love most.
