I want a phrase/question to sink deeply in as you read this.

What does it mean to leverage your life?

Most of us think of leverage as a way to move a large object or to overpower a situation with leverage.

What if, as Christians, God is asking us to leverage our lives …to use our lives as part of a change for the better? Lots of questions come to mind, like the flooding and crashing waters of Niagara Falls.

What does that mean?

How is a life to be used as ‘leverage?’

Is a life something that can be ‘leveraged’ at all?

The message of the gospel is simple. Carrying out the gospel is not as simple, and living the uncompromising truth is even less simple. Life is like that. The understanding is easy, the living out, hanging flesh on the bones is a different story. So much of what we are is built on ‘recognition’ yet for every well-known minister, every well-known servant who has a ‘stage’, there are 1000’s who will never be named or known, that carry out, live out the inner and outer workings of the gospel daily. For countless centuries mankind has ‘leveraged life’.

It is said that General Eisenhower wanted only the youngest and most inexperienced men to storm the beaches of Normandy. He knew that to take those now hallowed beaches it was going to take the leveraging of bravado, innocence, and a ton of testosterone to stand up to the unwavering, constant fire of the enemy.

Leverage.

As I child I was terrified of giving my life to God because I knew it meant he would send me to the darkest African jungles where I would be surrounded by all manners of creatures that would kill me painfully and slowly. I was scared to let God ‘leverage’ my life for a greater purpose. For those of you who are old enough, we watched on TV as protestors stood in front of tanks, armories, and hatred from a Chinese government struggling with exposure and a different way of thinking. Many protestors ‘leveraged’ their lives for something they believed in.

And this leads to my question…

Where do you leverage your life?   It’s not mine to answer… but it’s yours to think about…

As the sunsets for your days, How are you leveraging your life?

Peace on your Journey this week
