Letting go…So you can Grow

This week was a milestone. I have been cradling, like all parents, my son since the day of his birth. There are many ‘big events’ in a child’s life but one of them is getting a drivers license. The permit is one thing but the actual license is something different. And…from a parent perspective, it truly caught me off guard.

I handed my son off to an examiner and watched him ‘move’ more into the system of the adult world. I wasn’t the only teacher and judge, now the state of North Carolina was. As they left the parking lot, all I saw was the black and white images of my son’s birth, cutting the cord and realizing…I am still cutting the cord.

We are talking about ‘letting go’ so you can ‘grow’. Growth is always about ‘letting go’ of something so you can ‘go’ onto the next step and I believe, this is very much how our heavenly father views us as His children.

Yea, as I looked at my empty driveway after he pulled out for his first solo trip it hit me, parenting, and personal growth are about letting go. I am sure our Heavenly Father feels the same way about us.

The Lord, our Father does the same for us by nurturing, growing, teaching, correcting us till we are ready for the next step of the life He designed for us. Think of how many of His children have left Him empty driveways as they’ve stepped off into the big world He has designed.

2 Corinthians 6:18

“And I will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.”

The bottom line is growth is about letting go so you can go forward to the next thing.

Peace on your journey this week.

  1. I’m always amazed at how your msgs hit home Jeff! I admittedly haven’t read the last few bc of being so busy and love the video effect!
But your message… I can relate to win our kids went through similar growing pains (For us anyway! Ha!) but even now, in getting ready to move into another home, I’ve been decluttering & minimizing… and your msg. can so relate to letting go of “things”, in growing into our next phase. As always Thank you for sharing Jeff!!
